Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, he will make your paths straight.

Trust is the trait of believing in the honesty and reliability of others, a certainty based on past experience, a complete confidence in a person or plan, a trustful relationship, allow without fear, expect and wish. To trust in the Lord is to believe his words and to hold on to it knowing well that faithful is he that has promised and he will surely do it. There are past experience to show that God is worthy of our trust, he has done wonders before and he can do it again and again. In Genesis 12: 1-3, Abraham had a choice to make, his decision was between the security of what he has (homeland, kindred and peace that comes with it) and the uncertainty of traveling under God's direction to an unknown land and uncertain future. All he had was the promise of God to guide him and bless him; there was no physical evidence in sight. His decision of whether to go or not is a crucial one, his lineage and future of becoming a great nation depended on it as the Lord has promised to make him great as he obey. His decision to follow God set into motion the development of a nation God will use a unique purpose when he visited the earth (Jesus, through the tribe of Judah).

We do not probably know the long term effect of most decisions we make in choice of spouse, career, location, academics, business, relationship, place of worship, investment, association and a lot more. This should cause us to think carefully and seek the face of God for direction as we have been admonished in Proverbs 3:5-6. Don't leave God behind in ANY aspect of your life, we are constantly faced with the challenges of decisions and test of our faith and patience and how we handle them matters. The big question is: Can you trust God with your life? Can you in honesty rely solely on his words and promises? Can you have complete confidence in him that he is able to do that which you are waiting on him for? Can you allow without fear your future to place in his hands? Can you have a trustful relationship with your maker as he created all things and nothing is in existence without him? Can you rest secure in his care without using your head to work things out? If you have tried God before, if you believe that the word of God is true and the testimonies of his unfailing faithfulness in the life of many around you is true, then you can trust him. In Genesis 22:1-10 Abraham could trust God again with his son and he held nothing back for he had seen his works over the years. Look back on the years past and God's care, faithfulness and love in your life, that you are alive is a sign of his faithfulness. He has not brought you this far to leave you now. Psalms 77: 11 says I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. Call to mind his wonders of old and trust in for now and the future.

Your expectations will not be cut short!
